Sugaring

What is Sugaring?

Sugaring is an ancient middle eastern practice that is similar to waxing, but the past sticks to the hair not the skin, which causes less redness, pain, and inflammation. The mixture is made of natural ingredients, there is less irritation, and it washes off easily with warm water.

Before Sugaring Appointment

-Two days before your appointment gently exfoliate the area that will be sugared.
-If you are concerned with discomfort during your appointment, a numbing cream is avalible for purchase. The cream must be put on the area 45 minutes prior to your appointment. You can arrange a time with Skin Secrets for pick up prior to your scheduled appointment date. This will make your hair removal process easier.
-Please DO NOT exfoliate that day of your appointment to prevent irritation.

Day Of Sugaring Appointment

-Please arrive with dry skin, do not apply lotions or oils to the area being sugared.
-Remember to BREATHE! Holding your breath causes you to tense up.
-Depending on what you are getting sugared, you will be gently guided to a position that assures the best sugaring treatment. Your esthetician may even ask you to hold the skin tight. The tighter the skin, the less it hurts.
-Minor blood spotting is normal, especially if your hair has been shaved over a period, or if your hair is coarse and thick.
-Many clients feel comfort in taking Ibuporfen before their sessions. Please consult a doctor before taking any medications.
-A histamine reaction can occur on the first few visits. Taking a antihistamine a few days before your appointment and the day of your appointment may help prevent this. Again, Please consult a doctor before taking any medications.
-If your hair is extremely long, you may trim it down to an inch. BE CAREFUL to not trim it too short. If you need trimmed the time of the appointment, a $5 fee will be applied to your service.

Use only products recommended by your skin care professionals. --Avoid applying highly fragranced products to the area. This includes perfumes, scented body lotions, antiperspirants, cosmetics, or feminine hygiene sprays.
-Avoid using harsh abrasives or exfoliates in the sugared area immediately after sugaring. Wait a day or two before exfoliating.
-Avoid applying skin care products to the sugared area 12-24 hours after your appointment unless recommended by your skin care professional. This includes self-tanning products and tan accelerators.
-Any pinking of the skin should disappear within 6 to 8 hours. Slight pinkening is normal, and indicates the hair was removed from the root.
-If you experience bumps or whiteheads after sugaring, it may possibly be a histamine reaction. This is a common reaction especially for a first-time sugaring client. Your skin care professional can recommend products and home care to help decrease sensitivity.
